Here at VHL, we take the safety of our clients very seriously, regardless of which service you have engaged, the size of the project or if it is for domestic or commercial purposes. We strive to uphold the latest in safety standards to ensure all of our work is produced to the best possible standard as well as being compliant with all safety regulations. As an extension to this we have recently become involved with the Gas Safety Week launched in 2010 by the British Gas Safe Register.
What Is Gas Safe Awareness?
Gas safe awareness week takes place once a year, every year, throughout the UK and in 2013 is taking place between the 16th and 22nd of September.
Gas safe awareness week was born to raise awareness of the dangers of improperly installed gas appliances and the dangers associated with gas around the home. Every year thousands of people within the UK have been affected by carbon monoxide poisoning, and year on year that number remains the same which is why it’s more important than ever to take action and ensure British residents are safe within their own homes.
21 million households within the UK, the Isle of Man and Guernsey have some sort of gas appliance used to heat hot water as well as a central heating system within the home, be it gas or electric. With this in mind it has become an unfortunate reality that many gas systems are incorrectly fitted by unqualified technicians which results in carbon monoxide poising – a deadly odourless and colourless gas.
There are an estimated 250,000 illegal fittings and repairs that take place every year according to Gas Safe Register research conducted in 2009. In an effort to reduce this number and keep British residents safe Gas Safe Week has been born. This year marks the third anniversary of Gas Safety Week, and each year more companies pledge in one way or another to ensure the message reaches residents in their local area. This year there are 2626 pledges made so far!
Our Pledge
VHL has registered with Gas Safe Week to help raise awareness. We operate throughout the entire London area, and if we can make sure residents local to us are aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, we hope it will go some way to reduce these shocking figures. In addition to gas awareness we offer free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with all of our installations to help keep homes safe
